Welcome to the 2021 Jinju Traditional Craft Biennal
It is with great pleasure to meet you all. I'm Byung Hoon Jeong, the chairperson of Jinju Steering Committee for UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
I am delighted to announce that Jinju City designated as a UNESCO creative city is hosting the Jinju Traditional Craft Biennale in 2021.
The event had been organized by the Jinju Creative Industries Promotion Association, which was established in 2018 to carry out the city's creative projects,
and has been transfered to the Jinju Culture and Tourism Foundation.
Jinju City aims at three purposes to hold the event :
Firstly, since Jinju was designated as a UNESCO creative city in the field of craft and folk art in November 2019,
the City wants to boost the development of the cultural industry.
Exhibiting and appreciating the best Korean domestic and foreign traditional handicrafts will provide a great opportunity to industrialize Jinju crafts.
Secondly, we want to promote exchange experiences among the sub-networks of UNESCO's creative cities in craft and folk art.
The event will internationalize Jinju crafts by providing a platform for sharing the knowledge, experience, and practice of creative cities.
Finally, we want to provide a creative place to craftsmen in Jinju in order to enhance creativity,
and encourage their efforts to modernize traditional crafts to meet the global standard.
Various experiments will be carried out to modernize traditional crafts by adding practicality and modernity to the historical assets of Jinju craft.
I would like to ask for the continued interest and support of Jinju citizens who love crafts,
and I look forward to having the generous support of craftsmen from all over the world, including those from other UNESCO Creative City Network.
